Best Poster Award

AESLA 2019 is pleased that the journal Languages will sponsor a Best Poster Award. This award is intended to reward the presenters for the extra effort it takes to prepare a top caliber presentation. Through this mechanism, we hope to encourage the poster format to present high-quality research.

A 250€ cash prize will be awarded to the presenter(s) of the winning poster.

A three-member committee made up of applied linguistics professors will evaluate each poster during the poster sessions on the basis of the following criteria:

  • scientific quality (content)
  • textual quality:
    • formal and textual adequacy
    • coherence & accuracy (structure –methods, results, conclusions– and methodological precision)
    • cohesion (how information is conveyed)
    • correct and clear writing
  • originality and novelty
  • poster design

The winner of the Best Poster Award was María de las Mercedes Soto Melgar from the University of Granada, Spain. The title of the winning poster is “Estudio sociolingüístico de las realizaciones [͡ʧ] y [ʃ] en el habla de Algeciras”.

Aesla 2019 Monkeys Contest

Have you seen our monkeys?
Have they attracted your attention?

We have not chosen them randomly… what do you think they mean? Do you know why they are related to our conference? Try to give an answer to these questions and participate in our ‘monkey contest’. The best proposal will be awarded with an AESLAgift. If you want to participate, you have to write a tweet in your Twitter account with the hashtag
#monkeysAESLA2019
with your explanation on how the monkeys relate to our conference.
If you do not have a Twitter account, you can join here or vote using our own account during the coffee breaks. But please do not forget to write your name!

Four people of AESLA 2019 organizing committee will select the winning contribution. Precision of information will be taken into account, but so will talent and wit. The winner will be the explanation that gets the highest score. The information on the winning tweet will be published on the conference website and on the conference social networks. The prize for the best tweet will be awarded on Friday March 29. We encourage you to participate!
